Mr. Janis graduated with honors from The University of Florida Collegeof Law and received his undergraduate degree with honors from Florida Atlantic University. While at the University of Florida, Mr. Janis was a Teaching Fellow for Legal Research & Writing/Appellate Advocacy, and was also the Assistant Editor in Chief of the University of Florida Journal of Law and Public Policy. Before attending law school, Mr. Janis served in the United States Air Force, HQ Air Intelligence Agency, serving two tours in the Middle East in support of Operation Desert Shield/Storm and Operation Southern Watch.
Currently, Mr. Janis is admitted to practice in Florida, New York, Texas, Michigan, Nebraska, West Virginia and Iowa. He is also admitted to The U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Middle & Southern Districts of Florida, The 11th Circuit Court of Appeals and The U.S. Supreme Court. He is also a member of the Defense Research Institute and the Florida Defense Lawyers Association. Mr. Janis obtained Board Certification in Civil Trial Law from The National Board of Legal Specialty Certification, and also received the Martindale-Hubbell “BV” rating, indicating a very high level of legal ability, professional excellence and unquestionable ethics. He was also selected by Law and Politics and Super Lawyers magazine as one of the top young lawyers in Florida.
Mr. Janis regularly represents clients throughout Florida and the throughout the nation. He has tried a number of cases to verdict, particularly in matters involving construction & heavy equipment liability, toxic tort liability, commercial premises liability, breach of contract and general liability defense. Currently, he is the national trial counsel for a major national market insurance carrier and is lead counsel in over 20 cases throughout the country, including such matters as gas explosions, construction defect matters, products liability matters, and environmental matters. He is also involved in the defense of local retailers and middle market suppliers accused of supplying toxic Chinese Drywall to builders and homeowners. Mr. Janis is lead counsel in numerous Florida based Chinese Drywall matters, as well as several Federal Court Chinese Drywall matters which are part of the Federal Multidistrict Litigation based in New Orleans, LA.
Mr. Janis joined Adams, Coogler, Watson, Merkel, Barry & Kellner, P.A. in 2003 and became a Partner in the firm in 2008
